Which has a higher MERV rating?

Saw a washable hogshair filter that claimed MERV 4 (would not have thought it was that high) and was wondering if washable hogshair provided more filtration than disposable fiberglass which does not give a MERV.

both are poor filters!
strive to get to 4inch thick pleated = getting ducts to proper performance levels

fiberglass probably= 2 MERV

better change/ wash ea 2 weeks
if coated, too long between maintenance events

if you can sprinkle salt on a filter and it can pass through it you dont wont it.
especially for heatpumps or central air

I use NaturalAire Standard pleated filters, MERV 8, made by Flanders. A 3-pack from Home Depot is $7.

Good luck.

Hogshair works great for large particulate like over-spray in paint booths. Fiberglass has a slightly higher merv rating but has a lower holding capacity than hogshair. Even a "cheapo" pleated fiflter does a better job for your application.
