Is the air temp difference across an air conditioning evaporator coil suppose to be 20 degrees?

Under optimum contitions. Proper unit charge, expansion device operating properly, all coils and air filter clean.

you could find anywhere from 15 to 25 degree split across that coil with the unit operating normally. it has a lot to do with the surrounding conditions including humidity, outside ambient, inside temp, filter condition

I find 18 - 22 degrees under most conditions is healthy for air cooled equipment, in cooling
heat pumps i like to see heat at bout 26 - 32 degrees.
