I have cooking alot of crabs this year in my steamer, and to tell you the truth I perfer mine now over the local resturants.
Last weekend I was out crabbing and I was pulling alot of clams out of the water and was throughing them back. After a while I decided to keep some and cook them with the crabs. I dont like them, but maybe someone else does who is coming over for the carb feast.
So, I steamed them up with the crabs. Seasoned the same and served with some seafood butter. Man were they good!
The shells open right up and you get the flavor of the seasoning and with the purified butter, it was really tasty.
I dont like oysters or clams or really much seafood besides crabs and shimp, but I think I will bring some home everytime now.

Yum! I love me some sea bugs! I even like the slimy little mollusks. If I'm ever in socal, I'll be sure to invite myself over!:D
With a name like weber, you gotta be a good cook.
Do you use pots or a trotline? Crabbing is always something I have wanted to try... but in the Northeast, the closest think we can catch are little crayfish. They do make great bait for small mouth (black) bass, though.

Im in MD now, and we have the best crabs!
I use trotline and pots, with chicken necks. The clams come up with the pots.

Honestly, I dont know!
I guess when the trap is dropped it sinks in the mud, and some clams come up in the mud throught the holes of the cage. If that is how then I must lose alot when I pull the trap up.

I would rather to never eat crabs out. Got them cooked right and hot on the table one batch at a time.
1/2 beer, 1/2 viniger and dumped the Old Bay or Wye River on like I got a bad cramp in my arm.
Not big on catching them, at $30/bushell I'd rather fish for other things.

I have a house in a small crabbing community. They can be particular at times but we do get deals on crabs. The highest I've paid was $60/bushel. Did pay $33/doz for Large soft crabs last week. Use them for bait. Funny to watch clouds of bunker being chased by rockfish ,(at 4am), and trout stop what their doing and chomp on a chunk of soft crab instead. The Black Drum seem to have a taste for them too.

thats a lot of money for bait...
used to use "peelers" all the time when my grandparents were on the eastern shore, could not beat them for catching fish.
