Was just reading the local classifieds and happend to see this, thought maybe I would throw it out there for some of the rookies and newbies and to get any thoughts from the VETS.

A word of advice to the newbies and rookies, if it sounds to good to be true it probably is.

To the vets, I bet you wish ya could have got it done in 30 days.... :D

Well I am still a newbie as I have only been in the HVAC field for about two years, and I can honestly say I still got a whole lot to learn... so I'm not sure how much you can gleen from thirty days.

I think you could teach a smart guy a lot in a 30 day no nonsense crash course.
providing you had a lab with lots of hands on stuff. the individuals would have to have already been a good mechanic.
enough where he/she could drive around and do residential inspections.
record superheat and sub cooling, make an evaluation, possibly do some minor repairs.
What do you think?

No way.More often people want answers and repairs done right now.An inexperienced tech can do alot of damage to systems, property, and a company's reputation etc.Maybe ductwork under supervision but not by themselves.

After boot camp the Navy sent me across the street to Machinist Mate Class "A" School. For almost four months I was steeped in Navy steam propulsion plant theory and application. I did well and made honor graduate status.

That being said, my real education began the moment I stepped aboard my first ship. The "A" school knowledge helped me understand what was going on, but only by spending many watches on the deckplates could I learn more than just what was going on. It was a process of learning when, when not, where, how, and why, along with the what. A lot of it was rote...doing the same thing over and over until it became as natural as breathing. There is only one way to get all that under one's belt...TIME.

Ain't much different in the HVAC industry. One could be a super sharp guy with getting the "what's going on" down pat...but it's gonna take a lot longer to get all the rest up to speed.

Does the certification say, "Certified by Joe" ?

My own two cents...and you CAN repeat this as it is very wise, yes indeed!

School: teaches you how the equipment works.
OTJ: teaches you how to work on the equipment.

Minor difference in words, major difference in concepts...LOL

They plug a bunch of wires into your head and perform flash training. They put all the info directly into your brain. After 30 days of it, You are now a ROBO TECH. That name looks/sounds familiar? :D
