View Full Version : VisionPro IAQ Em. Heat question

I have a dual fuel setup, 80% furnace with a brand new 15 seer carrier heat pump. All controlled from the new Honeywell VisionPro IAQ.

My question is: During testing, when I put Tstat into Em. Heat mode, and crank the temperature up so that it activates, the red LED does not come on as indicated by the manual:

"Heat Pump Emergency Heat LED Indication
The thermostat uses a red LED indicator that lights when the
thermostat is in the Emergency Heat mode. The LED is located
in the upper right corner of the thermostat. It is visible only
when on."

According to the manual, any time the system is in Em. Heat mode, even with "No call for action", the red LED should be on. (Page 22: http://www.ntsupply.com/files/products/VPIAQTECHDATA.pdf).

I know the LED works, as when there was an error code during install, it was lit up. This is a heat pump system, so you cannot jumper L to the aux heat terminal. It's used for heat pump feedback.

So my question: Does something sound wrong, or is the LED only supposed to come on when in a true emergency heat situation below the compressor lockout? I'm not asking for any DIY instructions, just a question.

Thanks!

Good question, the 9000 is a powerful tool but does require precise set up, I suspect one or more of the set ups are whacked -

I'd either start over & reprogram the unit or call 1-800-468-1502

p/ the manual

"Heat Pump Emergency Heat LED Indication

in the upper right corner of the thermostat. It is visible only
when on."

Who installed it? If it was a dealer, call them back... if this was a DIY, you're on your own.

The dealer installed everything, but wasn't used to the VisionPro IAQ tstats, mainly uses the simple Carrier tstats. I was unaware of this when originally requesting the IAQ (for the obvious benefits). I don't have an infinity furnace, so couldn't go that route. So I'm sure there may be some settings that could use refinement.

With this in mind, Does anyone have an VisionPro IAQ installed? And if so, could you please describe the functionality of your red light? It's a simple light, but important factor in the system. I'm thinking I may be interpreting the manual incorrectly, and that the light doesn't actually come on when manually set to Em heat, and I'll have to wait until winter to see a red light.

Thanks!

Make it your dealers problem, with the excellent tech suport from Honeywell, it will work like a charm.

who cares about the light, does the system work properly?

I'll check soon. Right now trying to get the place cooled down after being gone :D

Thanks BaldLoonie! I look forward to your response :)

And yes, the system is working fine. I'd just like it to indicate when its on fossil fuel, as it sounds like it should.

I get no red light in em mode like you do with the 8320.

I'll shoot an e mail to my Honeywell friend and see what he has to say.

sounds like set-up parameters need a little tweaking!

So it's not just me :) Thanks for the reply BaldLoonie. Have you ever seen the red light on, possibly in winter when the compressor was actually locked out by the outdoor temperature sensor?

Mayguy: Let us know if you find out anything. This is an interesting issue for me.

Airmechanical: There doesn't appear to be any additional installer setup codes that relate to the light.

In VP IAQ, the L terminal is only an input. Therefore, the only time you will see the red LED illuminate is when there is 24V on the line (e.g. a HP monitor that senses a fault condition and closes the 24V contact) or if there is an error code that is internally generated by the stat. Hope this answers the question.

Thanks mayguy

Looks like the manual will needed to be updated if the Red LED will not work on the IAQ, just only on fault code.

Yes, so I guess the manual is flawed. Wonder if they know that?

Did they produce the manual before releasing the tstat to manufacturing.

Makes you wonder.
