Just went to work for a contractor.....The company pays ..what on the invoice ..billed to the customer...@ $99.00 per hr. + 20.00 Truck charge..
It actually works out well for the company...
no non-productive time..
just curious...has anyone else worked ...in this type of payroll system ?
and what would be a fair.. hourly rate ..
for the hvac mechanic...with 19 years experience ... in service
80 % residential
20 % commercial... some refrigeration..
had 2 call-backs ...out of 74 calls
thoughts ?

Our company charges an evaluation fee for plumbing & heating and a higher fee for AC. We also have a variable fuel charge on top of that. The evaluation fee is not credited toward repairs. All our repairs are flat rated and the client is advised of the repair price before the repair actually begins. I don't think this is the proper forum for discussing employee pay. Sorry.

My first job 30 yrs ago your hours were paid on invoice. I just rode around with the techs as a helper. Most days depending on the tech I was with, I had 16 hours pay for 8 to 12 hours of work. It worked out well for me as you always got paid for more than you work.
Looking back on it and not knowing any better then, you could only get that by hosing the customer. Techs would get the customer to sign the slips with no time on them and fill in the time later. Pad the hours etc. If you want your hours, you'll have to start billing for more hours per call.

Hello, yes you are asking too much with the info provided!!! Like where are you located? NYC, bum fok Eqypt? Looking at the hourly charges I would think you should be in the $28 to $33 an hour range. JMHO

I worked for a company years ago that did that, but like absrktek said, I live in BFE so I would spend hours everyday behind the wheel not getting paid. For me, some days I would put in 13 hours and get paid for 7. Check out the details.

Maybe you should consider going to Iraq. If you were an EMT or paramedic, you could get $180,000 for a six month stint in Iraq, as a private contractor.
How many HVAC techs come under small arms fire while doing a preventive maintenance visit?
The fact that you aren't going to Iraq to get the $100,000 suggests that you aren't really willing to do what is required to make that amount of money.
The answer to your question is that you should try to get as much as you can. Good luck.

Thats actually pretty cheap compared to some places, like the SF bay area where a "fixer" in the ghetto starts @$500K and up...
