I have just purchased a house built in 1983, furnace seems to be fine but outside condenser unit is not good. I found a used lennox system for sale and was curious 1) How do I find out how old the unit is, Furnace is Model C23-46-1, Serial 6099H39501, condenser unit is Model H526-042-2P, Serial 5899C49839. 2) Would the outside condenser unit work with existing furnace and coil or would it be best to replace all components? Any information anyone can provide would be greatly appreciated.

Since you didn't provide the numbers to the existing coil, we cannot answer your question as to compatibility.
I think you're asking for trouble here...used equipment can be a nightmare and mixing/matching can cause lots of problems if you don't know what you're doing. HVAC equipment must be properly matched and balanced to operate correctly and safely, only a trained professional would have the qualifications to do this.
Why are even fooling with used equipment? Though it may seem like a deal on the surface, the higher operating cost (than newer high eff equipment) and probably breakdowns will likely cost you more in the long run. Don't screw around with this stuff, hire a professional to install a quality, matched system with a warranty.

Purchasing used hvac equipment is like purchasing a used toothbrush.......might work but not recommended.
