I have a 5 ton Carrier Heat Pump installed in AZ. The outside temp is 110. The pressures on the unit read 300 high side and 80 low side. However the vapor line is barely cool and the compressor overheats and shuts down and then restarts. Is it possibly an obstruction in the TXV? Or do you have any other suggestions.

Definitely not enough info to troubleshoot.
Although, I doubt it is a restriction in the indoor TXV (if there is one)...suction pressure is too high. Most likely something in the condenser bypassing.

Pressure clean the outside coil, and see what happens. After that I need some more info. In my area of the country it could be quite a few other things, to include a previous service call by Blow and Go Inc.

is this a puron unit? if it is its low on charge. If its r-22, then feel the little freon line. if its hot, clean outdoor coil. 80 psi suction is not out of line if its stinken' hot inside. really need more info. though
