Have you tried lowering the thermostat setting that late at night? Late at night there's much less heat gain to the house from outside. If your thermostat is set high enough, the system may not come on at all.

Also, if it is a programmable thermostat, check your schedule. If you need it cool at night you may need to set your nighttime temperature lower.

Perhaps you have a programmable stat and IT IS working just fine.........
