I am doing research for my father. I have a brand new Trane for heating and cooling and will swear by it, but my father is being sold on a york, and I would like some opinions on this brand, I have not been able to find much!
Thanks

They are both just fine
whats most important than the brand is the installation
poor instalation will kill a unit no matter the brand
I personally like units from the big four in no particular order
trane carrier lennox York
Any of them properly installed and maintained will give many yrs of satisfaction to you

Thank you very much!! So most important is the job and how well done it is, got it.

Exactly!
But I would suggest the Affinity models over the lower end stuff and that holds true for every brand, not just York.

We were a York dealer for almost 20 years. The installing dealer is much more important than the name on the box. That being said we are replacing tons of indoor coils in the 7 to 12 year range because of leaks.
I tend to believe that some other brand names put more into quality control. I would not put a York in my house if i had a choice.

I would hope your not replacing them just for something to do. :)
As baldie said, the Affinity.

Twilli recommends Coleman much better than York;)

Go with Trane. It will probably cost a little more for apples to apples. But will be worth it in the long run for reliability. A bottom end Trane is more reliable than most higher end other brands. Go with the aluminum coil on the evaporator coil, it resists corrosion and will last longer. Make sure they put a Trane coil on, not an ADP or some other brand because it gets the same efficiency, its a crock, Trane makes a coil that will do the same thing, its just a few $$$ cheaper for the contractor, you will still pay the same. My judge of a piece of equipments quality is how many real old ones do you still see out there, I see a lot of old Trane/GE and Rheem units we don't even change them out for being broken, just cause they're so old and inefficient, they are usually still running after 20+ years. I don't see a lot of old York, a few Carriers and Lennox.

I would not base the purchase on a brand name basis, but rather the quality of the contractor(s) and parts availability of a particular brand. Some major distributors have multiple locations, making it easier for your contractor to locate that very important part on a cold winter day. If you purchase a new high end, high tech system, I would recommend the 10 year parts warranty with the purchase. The most efficient, best selling, name recognized system is not worth much if your dealer is not available with the necessary support to keep it going. Just some thoughts !!

I also have a new affinity 8T with modulating furnace.i am very happy with it .Its nice & quiet! my electric bill was always higher than my sons who lives across the street from me,now mine is 40 dollars a month less than his.
Idid purchase the ten year parts & labor warante because they dont make any thing like they used to.

I've repped 3 major brands.
It all goes back to the install. You must have some quality Trane installers in your area.

You can have one of the big 4 that is not installed right and it will not last as long as a cheap unit that is.Like everyone else has said, it all goes back to if it is installed correctly.

The 8T comes with 10 year parts, if you get everything from York, including the stat.

Stay away from York.
Trane is number 1 for a reason and Rheem is no. 2 for a reason.
Carrier is ok but Lennox is as good as York

I should not say this ,but I will. I sell all three of those brands. Trane, Rheem, and York.
I have been happy with all three!
Each brand has its strong points.
York has that mod gas furnace I love and my customers do to.
Trane has great gear and good customer and contractor support, I do not like the clean effects.
Rheem has a shorter cab. and I have found all around easier to install. Solid gear.
Truth be told I have even installed "Goodman" and have had no problems.
So go with what fits your budget and buy from a contractor you trust, and you'll be just fine.
