does anyone know which manufactures use O to energize the valve and which ones use B ?

Only manufacturers I know of that use B to energize, rather than for common are: Weatherking, Rheem/Ruud.

For residential split systems, yes. Be careful if you come across a pre 1980's Rheem or Ruud though; they energized in cooling ("O" terminal)
