lump sum - definition of lump sum - A single payment for the total amount due, as opposed to a series of periodic payments.

Yes, lump sum.....all the money one time instead of payments.
Now dutchie, what ever i say in words here are not exactly correct.
I do not have that much of an education as i spent more time kicked out of school than i did in school. In fact, when i was kicked out of english class they put me in a sewing class. That is why i can`t spell.

Look at it this way....at least you'll have more paid into it by then.:D
Seriously, I don't know if they have to have all that. Since I'm still with the first one after 44yrs, it didn't take me over 15 minutes to fill it out.
But no, she won't get any of your benefits. Just tell'm you don't know if she's still alive.
This should help explain consonants and vowels

It ain't that easy to be nice to and axe. Let her stay around and watch the worm turn in your favor. Men will always make it in life. That is the way it was supposed to be in the beginning and still is. Men have many assets. Women only have one. ;)

Sorry BB I wasn't around all weekend. The mother-in-law died on Saturday morning so you know how that is. My son came and got me off the golf course. Now I have to take care of her parakeet. My mother in law finally gave me the bird.
Anyway, what sr said is true. Start the process on line and they give you a "case" number. If you don't finish filling in everything then you can log off. Get any information and sign back in at a later time without starting over. You get up to 4 months to complete the form before you have to start again.
To dutchcool: No they won't let you take it in a lump sum. They only pay you while you are alive. If you retire at 63 you get less money every month.
If you wait until you are 70 then you get more money every month. But Social Security is based on the fact(or hopes) that you will drop dead at an early age.
Your wife gets a tiny amount of your dough if she has never worked and paid into the system.
