I'm asking around if anyone would know where I could go online to sell used Carrier rooftop units. eBay isn't working out so well, and I have over 10 units from a local school district. thanks.

why aren't you just recycling them? there is an awful lot of copper in those units.
sounds like a big pain in the ass to try to sell those to somebody. the shipping...oy vey
try your local business community forum. chamber of commerce. something like that. also property management companies might be interested. they always run their units into the ground and are looking for the cheapest fix possible

475,000 BTU Gas Heating – Rooftop units. Manufactured in 1995.- 460 volt 3-phase – With economizers and relief packages. All units removed at the end of the summer 2006.
they have used up about half their life so it should last another 10 years. I think they are worth 5k since they were about 12k new. I don't think you can get that with recycling? Shipping is up to the buyer, they will bring their own flatbed. I was just looking for a way to advertise in a big national advertisement spot they many businesses look at

aint nobody gonna buy them old big units!
think about it, to pay someone to install them, then they start breaking down, no way
besides things tend to get beat up after they are installed once then removed
then they need to be shipped and reinstalled, you say they have another 10 years left, i say b.s
and you think they are worth $5000 you must be kidding!
scrap em, recycling plants will buy all the metal as well as the copper

Kinda like trying to sell used furnaces and air conditioners on eBay... The stuff is only worth what someone is willing to pay for it.
Would you buy a used unit that probably can't be tested for 1/2 of the cost of a new one?

For what it is worth:
I had two Trane Intellipack's listed in this fourm (Junkyard) last winter (one 40T and one 50T, lots of extra features). After months, one person looked at them. But after figuring out how much it would cost to remove, ship, and re-install them (90T crane for starts), they declined.
The units are 1990, but only have 5 years of service, that is documented.
I think the problem is that the new larger packs have so much in the way of control systems built in, that the older ones are not a viable deal anymore; given the cost to move and re-install them.

Thanks for the replies. actually I know nothing about hvac, the guy who wants to sell them asked me because I know how to use a computer and he doesn't. He claims that there are plenty of companies that will only be around for 5 years or so who need a quick solution. He does this as a commercial business and his company has been going for many decades, so when he sounds confident these units will last up to 10 years and that they are much cheaper than a new one, that intallation can be done very cheaply, and that recycling would be a waste of time, I thought he knew what he was talking about - guess not lol

weld one (or 2 like we did) on a flatbed trailer and rent it out as a temporary unit on your remodel jobs.
buy a few boxes of 20" flex and charge 300 - 500 a week plus installation and removal.
we did it with 2 old 15 ton RTUs we had and made quite a bit of honest money. if one quits, you have spares.

Most rooftop units are pretty much spent at ten years old.He might get some money for the compressors at a rebuild shop & some for the copper. We had a company here buy & pay us to install old crap like this.To funny, they spent thousands on service getting them up to snuff.
