No, no HVAC companies I know of due there own eddy current testing. There are companies out there that specialize in this. The scope is the least of your worries, a competent tech that understands what they are reading is far more important IMHO.

right on. I've been reading up about it, and from what I see, you're absolutely right. it's the ability to read the display that is the important part. thanks

We found that it was cheaper to hire a company that only does Eddy current testingwhen you consider the cost of the equip, operator training, equip upgrades and operator periodic recertification. Plus that is maybe a tech that could be doing overhauls or service calls. It's a buisness call by management.

In my opinion eddy current should only be done by trained EXPERIENCED people .
Yes anyone can go buy the equipment if you have the money and take the training course and say they are an eddy current tech , but knowing how to interpret the lines and squiggles on the screen takes years of experience of doing it constantly to be good at it .
You are not going to look too bright if you test a 1000 tonner and say its good and a week later its full of water and ready for the dumpster .
If you only do a few machines a year compared to someone who does it every day how good do you think you can be ??? the old addage "use it or lose it "comes to mind .
Also if you have it done by a certified contractor with experience and good equipment who can prove their experience you will look better in the customers eyes . JMHO.
