I have a trane intellipack at a 3 story office building. We just replaced a compressor on one of the circuits. This intellipack has 1 bigger compressor on each circuit and 2 smaller ones. 1 of the smaller ones went out. We replaced the compressor plus changed the oil on the circuit. The amount of oil we took out we put back in. When this circuit starts it, starts the big compressor first. The oil sight glass on it is about 1/2-3/4 full. Well when the 2 small compressors start, the oil level in the bigger compressor goes down to about 1/8-1/4 full, and the newer compressors oil level raises slightly. There is a oil equalizing line on all the compressors. Do you think that there is a problem or is this normal?

I also was wondering that if it depends on what type of silver solder to use on these? Most of the supply houses around me sell the safty silv 45, but trane sells safty silv 56. Was it ok to use the 45?

Should i buy a can of the trane grey spray paint, to paint the steel to copper joints to prevent rusting? Do i need anything other than paint, because the factory joints have the paint and have this thicker red stuff as well.

Sounds normal to me. If the larger comp is 1st stage, as the smaller comp. stage up you'll begin to discharge more oil. You'll also return oil when fully loaded as well. Oil return may appear slow, but it'll come back. All compressors are in tandem (piped together per stage)this how the stage is loaded up. Any of your 45 % silvers are pretty good, however I do have a preference in flux, I like to use Harris stay-silver. You can also buy flux coated 45% silver rods, they work great, a little expensive though. I also like to paint my welds w/a primer for protection & appearance, that Trane paint will match the compressor & help protect.

Oil level sounds normal, 45% is good and is what we use, and paint is a plus if you don't want rust.

on brazing just "keep it clean" on both ends going together, and the oil will balance out when both are off and will pull on the other when running...when both are on check it then 1/2 up is good
