Lennox Condensing unit has fried the compressor and customer wants to replace only the compressor not the whole unit. The numbers I have are:
Lennox, Model# HS8-411-9FF8 Ser#5174D01247 Painted on the compressor are #'s P8-6293HS Anyone know the size of the compressor in HP or tonage? I also recently heard that I can over size a condensor by 1/2 ton per seer jump when replacing condensors. Any info?

Don't walk, RUN!

That sucker uses the old RFC liquid line. Today's high SEER wouldn't last long trying to move refrigerant through that. You'd have to grossly overcharge just to get your suction up. I know many will do anything for a buck but this ain't worth the risk!

Time to retire the old thing, I doubt the system is in good enough condition to warrant replaceing the compressor, which is the only choice you have to keep that antique in operation. A new condenser wouldn't work well with the rfc system that old lennox has. RUN is good advice!!

Thanks for the quick response! I thought it was older than he said. I'll give him a bid on a new unit!! Thanks again.

I'd be curious what the availability of a compressor for that unit would be!

Better include a lineset in the bid if it has the RFC lineset like Baldloonie referred to.
