I have a pressure regualtor I am replacing on a Carrier Prevent 1 condensor chamber, Using R 123 and the new one looks extremely different from the old one, doesn't look right. I have pictures of the new one but not the old one if anyone needs to see it.

The old valve looked more like a HGBV valve with a stem on it and it was adjustable, this one sounds like its permanetly set at 35 PSI. Any input would be appreciated, but I feel a phone call to carrier coming on.

why don't you just go to a supply house like United Refrigeration and buy the one like you have. It is a pretty common item.

You should just throw that prevent purge out. Has to be the worst purge made. You'll put the regulater in then the tank will leak. Real POS IMO.

You can get a new adjustable valve from Trane. It's the one they used on their old belt driven purges. It's made by Cash Acme. You can purchase a rebuild kit for the old one you have from Carrier RCD. You can install a Prevent II upgrade kit which will replace the relief valve with a pressure switch and solenoid valve. (Also available from Carrier RCD).

i usually yank out the prevents, the are worthless. Ive installed Trane purifier purges in their place even on contract chiller, it save a lot of head aches in the long run . if u come across trane chille demolitions , save the purges the will help in the long run. Have a dozen of 19dk under contract replaced every purge w/ a purifier

POPPOP, The pressure switch and solenoid has since been replaced by yet another pressure relief valve at least a year ago. For all I know, it may have been replace by something else again.

Scrap the piece of S*&$ and put a purifier purge on it the only purge I can think of worse than Prevent would be the old Trane oiless or the Quad purge.

To each, their own. I have four Prevents under contract, one on a circa 1965 19D. They provide me with minimal problems because I take care of the maintenace on these machines. Their one true asset is the ability to remove air quickly from a non running chiller. But I do not fit the definition of an expert......... someone from out of town.

That may be true but how much refrigerant are they guzzling and releasing in the process. The EPA must love you.

The big reason I am not able to get them replaced, is because they are in a plant and on process cooling, and I can't get management to justify a Design change order to let us put an after market purge on it, although whoever stated the Carbon tank would leak was right as it is leaking.... :D :D Oh well, who am I to tell college educated engineers that they need to lift a pen to write a piece of paper so they don't have to keep paying us so much....

Pay me now or Pay me later.

Not much I guess, I haven't added any new refrigerant in years.
