Can you believe it ! I was terminated as a centrifugal specialist last week. I feel it was caused by a complete change in management policies concernning the amount of information a technician should receive about the job scope and other business related matters. Management change was due to the death of the original owner, who originally hired me as a Field Supervisor/ Trainer, he was 100% customer orientated. The new group is strictly profit motivated.

Sorry to hear that. I just left a company that sounds like the one you were terminated from. Orignally, the "Old man" ran the business. He was attune to the customer and the tech alike. He backed out into retirement. Over the last few years, Jr. has taken the helm and the company has become less about customer service and doing the job right and more about greed. There is a difference between profit and greed. Companies are in business to make a profit. Greed takes over when a company decides that $$$ are more important than ethics, customer service or equitable treatment of one's subordinates. Greed is never satisfied- there can never be enough $$$.
Actually, my experience convinced me to go union. I know that there are positives and negatives and a whole argument that can never be resolved on this website but it is indeed worth considering. Myself, I just got tired of being jerked around over the years. At least with the union, you know what you have for a set amount of time and if laid off or terminated there is help to find you another position.
I am indeed sorry to hear what happened to you (it sounds painfully familiar)
I wish you the best of luck in the new opportunities that lie ahead.

Ammonianite, Thanks for the reply. I think people must think I have some kind of a problem to be terminated in the height of the season. The only problem I have is I like my customers and I was trained that way. The owner of this company wanted people with this attitude. But he died in an wreck and his widow brought on someone to take over. He has all the trust on one person who likes to manipulate people and play favorites all with the new leaders blessings. Please don't get me started on unions as I was trained under local 597 in Chicago and because of wifes health moved to Houston. It was not a pleasant exp.at the hall on Old Galves. rd. to say the least. Hang in there I know you and I will find good jobs.
