WASHINGTON, DC–Mere days from assuming the presidency and closing the door on eight years of Bill Clinton, president-elect George W. Bush assured the nation in a televised address Tuesday that "our long national nightmare of peace and prosperity is finally over."

President-elect Bush vows that "together, we can put the triumphs of the recent past behind us."
"My fellow Americans," Bush said, "at long last, we have reached the end of the dark period in American history that will come to be known as the Clinton Era, eight long years characterized by unprecedented economic expansion, a sharp decrease in crime, and sustained peace overseas. The time has come to put all of that behind us."

Bush swore to do "everything in [his] power" to undo the damage wrought by Clinton's two terms in office, including selling off the national parks to developers, going into massive debt to develop expensive and impractical weapons technologies, and passing sweeping budget cuts that drive the mentally ill out of hospitals and onto the street.

During the 40-minute speech, Bush also promised to bring an end to the severe war drought that plagued the nation under Clinton, assuring citizens that the U.S. will engage in at least one Gulf War-level armed conflict in the next four years.

"You better believe we're going to mix it up with somebody at some point during my administration," said Bush, who plans a 250 percent boost in military spending. "Unlike my predecessor, I am fully committed to putting soldiers in battle situations. Otherwise, what is the point of even having a military?"

On the economic side, Bush vowed to bring back economic stagnation by implementing substantial tax cuts, which would lead to a recession, which would necessitate a tax hike, which would lead to a drop in consumer spending, which would lead to layoffs, which would deepen the recession even further.

Wall Street responded strongly to the Bush speech, with the Dow Jones industrial fluctuating wildly before closing at an 18-month low. The NASDAQ composite index, rattled by a gloomy outlook for tech stocks in 2001, also fell sharply, losing 4.4 percent of its total value between 3 p.m. and the closing bell.

Asked for comment about the cooling technology sector, Bush said: "That's hardly my area of expertise."

Turning to the subject of the environment, Bush said he will do whatever it takes to undo the tremendous damage not done by the Clinton Administration to the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge. He assured citizens that he will follow through on his campaign promise to open the 1.5 million acre refuge's coastal plain to oil drilling. As a sign of his commitment to bringing about a change in the environment, he pointed to his choice of Gale Norton for Secretary of the Interior. Norton, Bush noted, has "extensive experience" fighting environmental causes, working as a lobbyist for lead-paint manufacturers and as an attorney for loggers and miners, in addition to suing the EPA to overturn clean-air standards.

Bush had equally high praise for Attorney General nominee John Ashcroft, whom he praised as "a tireless champion in the battle to protect a woman's right to give birth."

"Soon, with John Ashcroft's help, we will move out of the Dark Ages and into a more enlightened time when a woman will be free to think long and hard before trying to fight her way past throngs of protesters blocking her entrance to an abortion clinic," Bush said. "We as a nation can look forward to lots and lots of babies."

Soldiers at Ft. Bragg march lockstep in preparation for America's return to aggression.
Continued Bush: "John Ashcroft will be invaluable in healing the terrible wedge President Clinton drove between church and state."

The speech was met with overwhelming approval from Republican leaders.

"Finally, the horrific misrule of the Democrats has been brought to a close," House Majority Leader Dennis Hastert (R-IL) told reporters. "Under Bush, we can all look forward to military aggression, deregulation of dangerous, greedy industries, and the defunding of vital domestic social-service programs upon which millions depend. Mercifully, we can now say goodbye to the awful nightmare that was Clinton's America."

"For years, I tirelessly preached the message that Clinton must be stopped," conservative talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh said. "And yet, in 1996, the American public failed to heed my urgent warnings, re-electing Clinton despite the fact that the nation was prosperous and at peace under his regime. But now, thank God, that's all done with. Once again, we will enjoy mounting debt, jingoism, nuclear paranoia, mass deficit, and a massive military build-up."

An overwhelming 49.9 percent of Americans responded enthusiastically to the Bush speech.

"After eight years of relatively sane fiscal policy under the Democrats, we have reached a point where, just a few weeks ago, President Clinton said that the national debt could be paid off by as early as 2012," Rahway, NJ, machinist and father of three Bud Crandall said. "That's not the kind of world I want my children to grow up in."

"You have no idea what it's like to be black and enfranchised," said Marlon Hastings, one of thousands of Miami-Dade County residents whose votes were not counted in the 2000 presidential election. "George W. Bush understands the pain of enfranchisement, and ever since Election Day, he has fought tirelessly to make sure it never happens to my people again."

Bush concluded his speech on a note of healing and redemption.

"We as a people must stand united, banding together to tear this nation in two," Bush said. "Much work lies ahead of us: The gap between the rich and the poor may be wide, be there's much more widening left to do. We must squander our nation's hard-won budget surplus on tax breaks for the wealthiest 15 percent. And, on the foreign front, we must find an enemy and defeat it."

"The insanity is over," Bush said. "After a long, dark night of peace and stability, the sun is finally rising again over America. We look forward to a bright new dawn not seen since the glory days of my dad."

Couldn't be more wrong again, semen breath.
There are no underlying truths when you post, but we do get a great deal of sarcasm devoid of wit and coupled with plagiarism and spam.

This piece is one of the all time greats.
You'd think ole' dumbass just finished War and Peace or something.

I hope you are proud of yourself for reading the entire "piece".
Maybe you should take a nap now.

Dayum,

The author of that article, written back in 2001, must be Nostradamus II.
That sure was an accurate prediction of the future of the US under good'ol Blubya's command.

It's obvious from all the good will and nice sentiment found here that Blubya truly meant it when he said 'I'm a uniter, not a divider'.
He would really get that big smirk going if he were to visit this forum.
I can hear it now; 'Hey Karl, look at this. It's working. I've got them hating each other so much the boys on our side would goose step right up and hose hose sorry Democrooks down with a THompson sub.'

Of course it's plainly obvious now that he didn't have a clue what the definition of 'uniter' or 'divider' is... or most other words in the ENglish language.

I sure hope ol BLubya can eliminate Social Security and all the rest of those 'govment handouts before he leaves office.

Oh, and conspire with the oil companies to get these gas prices on up there where they belong.
You know we're paying a LOT less than they do in other countries anyway.
(I HAVE heard that from more than one consuhvative repugnant out there)

Back in 2001 I predicted $4.00 a gallon gas to all my friends and co-workers that voted for BLubya.
Well, I was WRONG. I think he can use the influence of the office of the president to get it on up to EIGHT dollars a gallon before he leaves office.
That's my NEW prediction.... $8.00 gas.

Gooooooooo Flubya!!! You're our hero. Yeah, you sure are a 'world beater' BLubya.

Let the name calling begin....hale I should just cut and paste the crap that will follow. It's always the same.

Of course our prolific debater and self proclaimed prostate king of the KA starts an oracle of a debate with a filty obscene remark.

Typical mental midgetry that fill the halls of ARP and these self proclaimed "pillars of humility"...

What a effin' joke.

Hell Clinton would have bankrupted the country if it wasn’t for the “Contract to America” which Newt and at that time the conservative Republican majority in congress made to America. They kept Clinton’s feet to the fire and that made him look good. Clinton was just a clown who did what that witch Hillary said. He would retaliate by chasing every skirt he saw. What a disgrace to the country. It made me ashamed to be an American with him as the C&C.

My only problem with my fellow conservatives in this country is waiting on them to act like conservatives. Bill Clinton was an embarrassment to this country, He and his wife are the only president to be referred to as "The Clintons" when referring to administrations. He lost his law license by the way, which means even lawyers wouldn't tolerate his horsepoopy(a sad statement by any regard, since lawyers are the only ones who can disbar a lawyer).
A friend of mine in the secret service was at the ranch in Crawford several years ago, and the President was working with a bunch of field hands SHOWING them what a clean fence row was supposed to look like. I respect people with dirty fingernails. I like people who show others how to do a job. I have a problem with people who can't keep their hands off the young daughters of others. Monica grew up real fast when the DNC didn't want molester Bill brought up on age related charges. She played her part well.
I'll stick with Dubya, who for those of you in Rio Linda is NOT running in 2008, because he has more backbone than all Clintons ever bred and has the trust of his wife AND parents, something Bill never had.

It takes more than a strong backbone, it takes knowing what to do with it!!

That being said, I will also take someone with a suspect personal life who does their profession well, over someone who pushes their "holier than thou" beliefs while doing their job poorly.. When it comes to being president.

Amen to THAT!!!

BLubya 'showing' his Mexican laborers how to mkae a 'nice clean fence'???
That REALLY makes me laugh.
Why isn't his sorry tail down on the border 'showing' how to build a nioce clean fence to keep the invaders out?

Another thing.....it was the dirty fingernail comment that prompted this....
For a large percentage of my life I was a 'high speed' taxi drive. Air taxi that is for the uber rich. I NEVER saw a ONE of them really 'get their fingernails dirty. Oh, they would stage an event and have the cameras and news there for the photo-op. Looking for all the world like they were just 'regular folks'.
I was even asked to get a 'Ford or a Chevrolet' to replace the limousines, Caddys and Town Cars because 'someone might think we're rich'.
The complete 'pakage' for every waking hour was totally about 'apperance'.
Nothing More. No substance. Just appearance.
Exactly like all those self righteous conservatives. Doesn't matter a dayum what the FACTS are. Nope. Just the appearance. That's all that matters.
Why you mat ask......

Please allow me to quote:

I respect people with dirty fingernails. I like people who show others how to do a job.

It's all about appearance because there is no substance. This is particularly true in FlubYa's case. But as long as he can 'put one over' on the people, he's done his days 'real' work. I bet he had that big SMIRK, SMIRK on his face when he told them to turn the camera my way, I'm fixing to 'show' them how to make a good fence.

If the little phucker knew anything about fences he'd show ME what a GREAT fence he could get built down on our southeren border.

I wonder how many people died as a result of Bill Clintons philandering. How many did we bury because of that blow job?
What's BLubya's score now? Oh, I forgot. We don't count the bodies of the 'insurgents'.
Hale, BLubya makes Dammer,Gacy and Bundy look like choir boys.
