Does anybody know anybody in the St.Louis area, or any area for that matter, that is willing to hire someone with limited experience?
I just finished school and got a certificate in HVAC and also have my EPA universal certification. I do have some experience helping a friend of mine install some residential units but he barely has enough work to keep him busy, let alone me.
I started my job search well before I was done with school and I have probably sent out more than 30 resumes and have only had 2 calls. One of them resulted in an interview in which I didn't get the job, the other I tried to call back but they never returned my call.
Right now I'm starting to get desperate. The whole time that I was in school I was able to draw unemployment from the WIA (workforce investment act) program. This is a program that allows for training for people who had lost their jobs do to outsourcing. Although the unemployment wasn't much, it was enough to keep my head above water. Now that it is gone, I need a job now.
I really thought that I would be able to get a job before I finished with school. Now, I beginning to think that I won't get one at all. And it is not just me. Most of the people that I was in school with are in the same boat which isn't a good thing because that is just that many more people that I have to compete with. For the most part it seems that the only people that was able to get a job after school were those who already knew somebody in the trade and they were able to get their foot in the door for them.
I really want to give HVAC a try, but I have bills that I have to pay and I don't know how much longer I can afford to wait.
Any suggestions?
