I have 2 -5 ton Trane RTU's that need blower motors. 460v 3/4hp, 3 speed, 1075...... I called Trane parts in Dallas. They are wanting 418.oo each. Good grief....I dont need Gold windings!
BTW, all the parts houses here in Tyler cant find this motor in their catalogs, so I'm asssuming its OEM only. IS there a better/cheaper source for these motors? Thanks, Randy

That figures !!! I am going to check out having them rebuilt. Might be an alternative....might be more expensive tho. I have approximately 45 units to get in shape for the new building owner. Luckily, only 2 blower motors. I have replaced 2 combustion blower assemblies already at a cost of 380 per full assembly. This is for a YCD061C4LOBD Tranes number in Dallas is 972-620-1161 if this helps..
Thanks Randy

Sorry guys, I didnt realize the "no price" policy.
I guess I should have worded it to find out other sources besides trane for this particular motor. I hate it when manufacturers have a "common " part built to where they are the sole vendor....and charge 4 times the usual cost of a similiar item.

why worry about the cost if the coustomer needs the part charge what you are worth. life is not cheap. if that is what it takes to get it going.

Job was a bid....trying to save anywhere I can.I'm under budget, but always try and save when possible. My bad for not realizing this was an OEM blower motor.

I've been doing this since '78... first mistake I've made :)

BTW...this was a 58000.00 bid. Several RTU changeouts as well, not exactly Cheap.

Try the American Standard dealer if you have one. They usually carry the same motor for much less. I have some cond. fan motors in a rtaa that I buy from them at a good savings.

Have you checked into ordering from an out of state dealer over the net.:)

Take you unit and motor info to your local motor shop. For some reason I can get about 40% knocked of the motor cost. Yes, he gets it off the OEM and marks it up, and its still cheaper.

i have never been a fan of using aftermarket motors. i have, for 20 years, always pushed for OEM parts. Lately i have had no choice but to give customers with trane equipment an option for aftermarket motors because trane's pricing is getting way out of hand. i can assure you that the trane service dept. does not pay $300 for a 1/2 hp condenser fan motor. back to the old issue of the manufacturer moving from the traditional customer support service department to the "customer competitive" structure.

That has been a big gripe of mine as well. The company I worked for before I went into business, was always competing against Trane or Carrier . (centrifugal work mostly) But its now down to the smaller stuff too.

BTW: appreciate all your input. Due to time, I ordered from Trane out of Austin (different manager) and the motors were 40.00 less ea. without even asking. I will do what you all have suggested in the mean time tho, and search the web for a less expensive vendor.....Thanks!

i use an aftermarket motor ANY chance i get, most of the time they last longer than the OEM motors!

you just need to purchase quality aftermarket motors!

and 99% of the time they are more inexpensive than OEM!

I have been purchasing from these guys for 20 years. I just ordered a 2 stage fan limit control for a 30 year old Trane roof top. Under $50. They know their stuff, and are NOT part of Trane.

Maybe next time you should price the parts before giving a bid.

Just replaced a .6 hp 460 v blower motor today on a 5 ton Voyager HP. Ordered the OEM motor because they are always just a little different than over the counter motors.Thats usually the case for Trane or Carrier rooftop motors so I don't waste my time even looking anymore I just order the OEM.

This was a Trane Voyager as well. And your right. ....They are 850 rpm, not 1075 like I thought. And they have 5/8" shafts turned down to 1/2" after leaving the endbell. Makes for stronger /better bearing IMO. But stilll....418.00? I'm going to check out TarrantParts. I remember buying from them years ago, now. Thanks for the link!
