Don't be passive like the customer I had last night.
2nd home at beach, no biggie, blown cap, duct leak, bought a maintenaince contract. Done.
Their other home they had a new system, heat pump. Repeated leaks in the Trane system. Coil on heat pump was replace last fall. All winter ran and ran. Very high electric bills. 1st time for cooling, no worky. Installer comes out, says has leak, outta labor warranty now. So they were told to buy a service contract and they would take care of it. So the installer gasses it up and leaves, says they will be back in the FALL to leak check.
Now that is what we in the trade call BS. You have a leak, find it. If it is still a problem and you have documentation, and it isn't taken care of, B!TCH! Call them and make them find the leak. They should have done it under warranty if they had any scruples. And buynig a service contract generally means your are at the top of the list for service, not the bottom!
Nice lady, good customer, just gullable I guess. You can be nice but there does come a time when you need to be aggressive. If the installation isn't right and get nowhere with the installer, go up the ladder to the mfg. HO's sometimes have more leverage than the contractors with the mfg's.
