stupid question....but can you create 2 zones from 1 trunkline

Debating between two smaller systems (2 and 2.5 tonnes) vs. one larger system (4 tones) for a 2,600 sq. ft. 2-story home. Was leaning towards the 2-system route so that would preserve closets on 2nd floor and also so that would have 2 zones (only heating upstairs at night, only cooling downstairs during day, etc.) however would this 2nd reason also be possible with the larger, single unit system route? In other words could the supplies that extend down to the 1st floor be controlled separately from the supplies to the upstairs?

when possible, its always better to have 2 seperate systems, (in my opinion)

that way you dont have to deal with (dump zones) and (bypasses)

and if 1 system breaks down you always have the other for temporary comfort!

that being said, your original post which is (kind of hard to understand) would lead me to believe

that you could utilize a zoned system if you really felt like you needed one!

and it would require some ductwork and control wiring!

2 zones can be done off of one trunk but it would be very costly. It would consist of a control damper on each run. Using 2 trunks would be cheaper.
