Cicadas

Has anyone witnessed a cicada invasion in mass quantities and their affect on a/c units,do they clog condesors,sit in contactors etc. ?.

Last time we had cicada's here I was still in high school, so I don't know how bad they can affect equipment, but I do know they are great fishing bait.

Been thru two invasions in the Washington, DC area. They are a real nuisance when working on roof as you are at their primary flight pattern height. Fly in your hair down your shirt, run into you. Also opening a unit up is almost impossible. As far as them getting into a closed unit, contactors, or coils didn't have a problem. Cooling towers were our problem, they could clog up the sump strainer and the pump strainer in less than twenty-four hours.
