View Full Version : Infinity Fan/blower attic mount, horizontal vs vertical

greetings,

I have received estimates from two contractors for a new Carrier Infinity system for the upstairs zone of my house. The heater/blower/fan is located in the attic above the second floor and is mounted horizontally.

The attic has a high ceiling with rafters, and the contractor I am considering wants to mount the unit vertically. he would have to do a little bit of work to fit it that way, but nothing major. I was concerned because the output air would start that much higher in the hot attic, and was wondering if there was truly no difference. His only reasoning, was because he said that's the way his guys prefer to install it. I am not an expert, but to me, the lower the air sits, the better for cooling in the summer. (my guess, is it would also add a few feet more ducting to bring it down to the attic floor (vents are located in second floor ceiling). (The other contractor made no mention of change in mounting).

also, in 2 bedrooms upstairs, the vents are right inside the room door. (near center of house instead of outer wall). The first contractor wanted to move the vents to outside wall, the second pointed out I have directional vents used to push the air towards the outside wall, and didn't recommend moving the vents. Is this just as good as moving the vents?

Thanks very much for your opinions!

Vertical install will require some 90° truns to get the supply back into the horizontail duct, more restriction, makes no sense to me,did you ask why?

hooter attic air is not a big deal, but why/

I'd leave the supplies where they are ,unlessm those are problem rooms, even then I'd likely correct it another way.
