Any good reasons not to flare in a residential ac system instead of brazing, aside from the added potential for leaks and the fact that it may take a little longer.

years ago many units were flare connections, many of them ended up leaking.

up until recently most of the txv's used for residential a/c had flare fittings.

have found fewer leaking connections with brazed connections and the newer chatliff fittings on the tx valves.

with the different metals in a flare fitting expanding and contracting at different rates as the fittings cool down and heat up, i have seen flare fittings that actually unscrewed themselves.

besides that reason flaring was probably better since there was no chance of contamination from improper brazing or soldering.

as far as time goes flaring is MUCH faster than setting up for a proper braze job.
