Hi guys, found a contractor; he says get the above with the Carrier zoning equipment and controls; says its better than the TraneDigital(Honeywell vision Pro)says the Honeywell is limited but the Infinity Control can do more zones; I saw all the DIGITAL display and I have a very simple notion on technology; the more "bells and whistles' the more they are likely to break....anyone agree? He is quoting me on the 100K BTU 95% VS furnace, 4 ton coil, 4ton A/c...dogdoc

This is Untrue u can add as many as 40 different zones u just need to get the extra add a zone boards

For the amount that you will be interacting with the equipment (Stat) I expect it to last a long time. The worse that could happen is to bend a post when you change batterys and that normally is simple to fix with a pair of needle nose pliers.

Your contractor was problably stating that Carrier Infinity zoning equipment and Infinity Controls are much better than the Honeywell. Also that if you are going to use zoning that 2 speed equipment is a superior choice to single stage equipment.

Unless it snaps off when you try to straighten it out, then your out $$$ for a new one. Don't even ask me how I know that.:(
Otherwise it's an amazing Tstat, especially considering that only 10 years ago the T-87 was pretty much the industry standard. I have one in my house and I would'nt change it for the world.

If he's putting in the infinity zoning system there are no batteries in the user interface/thermostat. As for taking it off it's mounting plate, you need to know the secret....... it doesn't just pop off like most.
The bells and whistles so to speak of the infinity system are mostly all there to protect the system from any damage due to abnormal operation.

Honeywell may have a problem with the "pegs" but that is not a part of the original question. The Infinity control (bells and whistles) does protect the system but also provides better zoning control. It "talks" to the the equipment and to each zone. It has the abitlity to allow excess pressure from only one calling zone to go into other zones while the honeywell wants to use a swing weight (bypass) that needs constant adjustments. The infinity is just plain smart when compared to other zoning systems.

Yes and No the honeywell isn't modulating BUT the trane zoning (He asks about first) is and does the same thing your talking about.
