I placed first in the Oklahoma post secondary skills usa hvac competition. I will be going to Kansas City June 25-29 to compete in nationals. Has anyone on this board ever competed in nationals, and if you did do you have any advice?
One problem I have is I start my first job in this field tomorrow, and I allready need to ask for a week off to go to nationals.

I didn't know that they had competitions. So if you do good, what do you win?

Only advice you need is just stay cool and appy what you were taught.

I'd be glad just to have a guy who competed on my staff. Brings back good memories.

Us Aussies have won a few of these , so i hope your work is up to scratch. :D

At state competition for first place I won a charging scale, set of 410 gauges, various klein hand tools, shop vac, digital thermometer, fluke vom, but the best perk were the job offers. I heard at nationals the tools you could win are vacuum pumps, torch kits, recovery machines, complete tool sets, and i guess a few years back they gave away a new service van.

are you going to be in kc, I will be there representing RSES.
My boss is going to be recruiting for metro air of Lenexa, Kansas, we are a union commercial shop and he will be looking for prospects that may wish to re-locate.
I assume guys are hoping if they do well in this that they could land a kick @ss job.
