I'm looking to install a new Trane XL19i system in my South Florida home and I'm considering using the HW Vision Pro IAQ T-stat.

I've run across a few questions....

Does the IAQ allow for adding both internal remote sensors along with an outdoor temp sensor? I know on the TCONT803 Trane unit that you can only install one or the other type and not both.

As for remote sensors, I understand that once you attach them, the internal sensor on the thermostat is no longer used. A look at the IAQ install manual seems to imply that there's an option to perform an average temp calculation between the internal T-stat temp and what is coming from the remote sensors. In my case, I only need to average the temperature from two areas so I'd like to avoid getting two remote sensors mostlt for aesthetic puposes. They don't cost much just the labor really in wiring them. So do I need 1 remote sensor or 2?

One side note, in order to get the Trane rebate I need to buy their complete package so I'll have to buy the IAQ as an "add-on" most likely. All the dealers kind of shrug and just say "Sorry, can't help you there, Trane makes the rules". Seems if you want to get a slightly more advanced system than the one that has the Trane name on it you are penalized.

I welcome any comments and suggestions.

Thanks in advance.

Go here and type in the model of thermostat you need information on in the lower right corner. This is the factory Honeywell site and will contain all the information you could ever want.

You can have both indoor & outdoor sensors. And a plenum sensor too!

The indoor can average between built in sensor & remote.

The IAQ is worth it, especially in your area where the dehumidify on demand will be great.

BaldLoonie,

I assume you mean adding a sensor to the supply plenum (not return)? Would this be to monitor Delta T?

So do I NEED to have an external sensor or is it just an easy way to see what the outside temp is?

Also saw a Telephone Access Module. Does anyone see any value in that? Seems a bit gimicky unless its a summer home, etc.

My only other question relates to possibly zoning the house by using dampers. I don't have a clue as how that would complicate my install. Any opinions would be greatlt appreciated.

Why do you want to zone the house? Warm Cold areas in the home?

Installed a XLi 19 and air balanced a home for customer and it is very even.

Zone systems can get a little complex, even for the installer.

Is the current duct work in your residence in good shape?

Consider a heat load calculation begore installing to justify the duct system and load for your residnece. Money well spent.

Only considering zoning since its a two story house and didn't want to unnecessarily cool both areas if they didn't need it.

Duct work is in great shape.

Ok Leghorn,

Have you considered two systems for your home? The zoning system may be worth considering, but the duct work must be considered when you switch to the upstairs zone. Can the duct work handle the air volume if the air handler was to go to high speed? There are static pressure issues to overcome.

We usually see 2 systems installed in a 2 story residential application.

That way, both systems will run satisfactory for both zones.

Thanks kidd,

I was told that putting in two systems was going to be a much pricier option. Now we're talking two compressors, two air handlers, somehow splitting up the ductwork etc. Seems that would be a more complex and expensive option.

I'll probably just stick with the two stage 5 ton unit. At least it will mostlt run on the 50% side so I'll realize some significant savings there.

You do not NEED to have the external sensor. If you do, then you see what the outdoor temp is and certain features, such as frost free humidification, will function.

Not sure what you mean about telephone access module. There are two components in the box: the stat and the equipment interface module. The EIM is the hub for the wiring, so it's absolutely essential, lol.

I think your refering to the evirocom panel, which uses the 9421 stat also.
