View Full Version : Is this a crock?
Listening to the radio just this minute, the announcer gave a plug for a product named "Permafrost". Claims it reduced his output temperature from 53 degrees to 47.

Just wondering about pros comments on this too-good-to-be-true product. Does it actually do anything?
Thanks in advance -- Pstu

Opinions are like #$&*#, everyone has one. Mine is: if this really worked, wouldn't OEMs jump on it to boost performance and SEER without huge coils, TXVs, other expensive methods?

That's my rule of thumb approach toward snake oils. If the OEMs won't endorse it, why should I?
Are there any automakers out there shipping cars to dealers with oil additives in the crankcase? Is there an owner's manual in any of those cars that approves the use of oil additives?
Seems like there's always somebody out there wanting to stick crap where it doesn't belong. For HVAC, there's far more bang for the buck in terms of efficiency and longivity if a system is designed, sized, installed, and serviced properly than ANY additive can hope to do.

Have to agree with BaldLoonie. If the manufacturers could get a higher efficiency rating by adding "snake oil" to a system instead of completely retooling thier factories to meet the energy standards don't you think they would take the cheaper way out?
