I have been using supco's universal pot relays that cover 1 to 5 HP compressors, and the 3 in 1 electronic relay for 1/3,1/4 and 1/2 HP compressors. Can't find anything for 3/4 HP compressors.Seems like for some reason they are left out.
Do you know if there is any 3 in 1 or a universal pot relay besides supco's and that will work for 3/4 HP.?

I believe the Supco SPP5, SPP6 and SPP7 are good for 1/2 to 10HP.
At least according to Johnstone's catalog.
:)
I just looked in my basement and found some Supco Adjustable potential relays #APR5 which are good for up to 5HP, If thats what you mean by pot relay.

I had this conversation before.I am not talking about boosters or hard start kits that you connect to the run capacitors.I am talking about start relays, with or without capacitors.

NOTHING FOR 3/4 THREE IN ONE SPP5&6 are for PSC compressors. Copeland says to use potential relay and start capacitor.:(

supco has a universal potential relay (1-5 hp).but nothing for 3/4 hp.
I did replace a current magnetic relay with this univ.pot relay though.(for a 3/4 HP compr.)
wasn't there a rule that compressors higher than 1/2 HP use pot relays not magnetic relays? Or do I remember something wrong?

Check the Supco literature. I have both of the Supco #SUPR and #APR5 Universal, Adjustable Potential Relays in front of me and I’m reading the instruction/wiring diagram sheet from each. Says they are both good for any “single split-phase or refrigeration hermetic motor 110v to 270v up to 5HP”. To me, that indicates that they should be okay for use on fractional HP motors. Not just 1 thru 5HP motors. I looked in the Tech Sheet on Supco’s website and it says the same thing, so it's possible you may be getting worked up over nothing.

Okey I went to my truck and read the SUPR again,it says up to 5 HP.I don't know why I remembered it 1 to 5 HP.
What's funny is,I discussed this with two supply house top guys in lenght. One says he will search why they don't cover 3/4 HP.The other one says 3/4 HP is not as common as others that's why they(Supco and others) would't design anything for 3/4 HP.It's not business-wise etc.So bottom line is I remembered something wrong, and these two supply house guys don't know what they are selling, one even BSted me.
A third famous supply house didn't even know what a universal pot relay was.
It just reminds me the time I was asking every supply house about the fitting for hooking gauges to ice machines without hoses.None of them knew what I was talking about.
Purge(and icehouse), you were right.thanks.

How are the settings adjusted on these controls
The spec sheets that icehouse posted no doubt answer most of concerns, but here is some additional info:
The SUPR is a universal potential relay that has factory set pick-up voltage, so there is no adjustment on that one.
The APR5 on the other hand has a small adjustment screw on it, which varies the pick-up voltage from 130v-370v in 30v increments. If you know the pick-up voltage on the relay you are replacing, you can set it to match. If you don’t know the value on the old relay, Supco recommends you use a setting of 180 for 110-120v motors or 310 for 208-240v motors. According to Supco, these pick-up settings will work for most 110v to 270v single split-phase and hermetic motors up to motors up to 5 HP.
Supco also says you can verify or fine-tune the adjustments if needed by watching needle bounce with an analog ammeter, but I personally haven’t owned an analog ammeter for at least 15 years now. This relay include an internal “timing” circuit so that if either the motor fails to start or the pick-up voltage is set to high and isn’t met, the start winding is disconnected from the circuit to prevent damage. The price is about the same for either relay and I will normally use the universal SUPR relay, but keep a few of the adjustable APR5 on hand just in case they are needed.
