1.) The installation guide of my unit (ICP T4A34) says "a liquid line filter-drier is required on every unit." The guide says it was shipped with my unit and should be located as close as possible to the inside coil. I have looked and cannot locate one. Is it possible that the filter-drier in my system cannot be seen somewhere in the line? The run is short but goes through the ceiling so I cannot search the entire lines.

2.) When, if ever is such a filter-drier replaced?

3.) The ICP T4A34 comes with diagnostic LEDs on the outside unit. The installer needs to install a 24V line to this module to make the diagnostic system work. The unit still operates without the lead hooked up, why wouldn't my installer hook this up. I have a VisionPro 8000, and I know there is 24V to it for the constant backlight...so I have 24V somewhere, right?

Thanks for any help...I am asking my contractor these questions tomorrow but I just want to know some opinions.

Your installer probably placed the filter-drier on the liquid line just outside your outside unit (or maybe he did not install one at all). Under normal operation the filter-drier does not need to be replaced.

You have 24 volts going to your outside unit. Don't know why he did not connect your diagnostic module, you'll have to ask him that one.

They want the drier close to the indoor coil. As for the comfort alert, Most straight a/c units only require two wires running from the furnace to the condenser. (2 wires in one jacket, called 18-2 wire). The comfort alert needs a constant 24 volts to opperate. That means they will have to have 3 wires at least. or 18-3. There is 24 volts all the time at the furnace, it is the same 24volt power that goes to the stat. (Usually)

I personally have never seen a filter drier installed anywhere but near the condensing unit.

The filter drier needs to be replaced anytime the system reaches 0 psig or less...ei leak repair.
