Who makes the better, more durable single stage furnace and 13 SEER AC -
York Affinity, Heil, Amana?

Rheem/Ruud, model RGRA/UGRA. It's been on the market since 1994 and is one of the best in terms of reliability. Also at only 34" in height it is user installer friendly too. Stainless steel primary heat exchanger with lifetime warranty to original owner and spark ignition. They also make a 2 stage version model RGRK/RGRL if you live in the north country.

Thats NOT the question I asked!
Its between York, Heil or Amana....come on, use your head.

Premium unit of whichever brand. All 3 have low end and premium. All 3 low end outdoor units are cheaper built and noisier. All 3 premium outdoor units have all the bells & whistles and are quiet. Install being equal I'd probably go Amana myself but wouldn't be bothered by a good install of any of them. But getting the good install may be a challenge these days. :(

Oh, I'd take the RGRA above the rest too :D

I'm so sorry walnuttree, I must have lost my head.

Heil would be your best option at this point. Quality , warranty, looks, and being manufactured by the worlds largest ac company gives it an advantage.

Thanks for the advice!
Would York's Affinity line be considered their high end line?

Yes, the Affinity is a premium unit. Get your college logo on it :D

Little ridiculous with the logo thing i think. Based on reputation of quality, at least in my market, I would go with anything but York. Heil first, then Amana.

hvactupelo....

Are you talking about the quality of the current Affinity line, or you talking
about York's cheaper stuff?

Just York in general. I have worked in a pair of supply houses over the years, and the biggest complaints come on York and Lennox as far as reliability issues go and what I have sold parts for. Trane, Carrier(ICP Tempstar, Heil, etc), and the Amana lines seem to have better quality products. If the Affinity series is better, then thats great and I hope York goes far on it, the units I am speaking on are ones that are in service right now.

Wow....the York guy is giving me 10 years part and labor for just a few hunderds dollars more. Heil is just 5 years parts, while the Amana guy is
10 years parts and he includes 5 years labor.

Tough decision!

The Heil guy must be quoting a r22 entry level. Ask for the R410 mainline units which will have comparable warranties and a no hassle warranty. www.heildlr.com so you can research the products.

Almost every manufacturer has extended warranty plans that they can offer for just a few hundred dollars more. Both of the companies I represent have 10 Year parts and labor extended warranties available on all of their units......
