have any trouble mounting 5 ton valves upside down, seen all kinds that way, but these sporlan valves are giving me alot of trouble, has one compressor on rack totally frosted up, having hard time making any sense of it

No problem mounting TEVs upside down. Make sure the equalizer line is piped in such a manner that it or the underside of the TEV diaphragm doesn't becomes a trap. Your problem invariably lies elsewhere. Need measurements and specifications to help in addition to observations. ;)

i'm not a reefer guy,but i would like to learn more than i know.
but from what i have been told by an instructor that a compressor frosting up could be normal.can someone explain?

well depending on your application.it doesnt take much,just because the line is frosted doesnt mean you are slugging,..freezers can run at low temps and your suction line and compressor can be very cold and the humdity in the air will freeze on the line..
