Hi!
i saw a funny picture on hvacfun , an overheated drain line all wrapped with heating tape. i'm wondering now what you guys normally use in north america to prevent evaporator drain line freezing ? :)

On Walkin freezer I use a heating element wrapped around the drain pipe and insulate around that with Armaflex.

Solder the liquid line to the bottom of the drain line. Works great and never burns out.

Are you saying only in Florida, as a bad thing? Or only in Florida would it work?

It works well too. Drop the liquid line into the corner of the box where the drain exits then follow the drain to the evap with staybrite #8. Insulate the drain and your done. Never a problem, ever.

Unless there is 32 degree liquid going to your valve, I think it would work anywhere.

That's pretty slick. You wouldn't have to deal with replacing burned out heating elements on the drain or the icing mess left on the floor.
