Hi, all
Can any body help me with this: What does retard mean on the pressure gauge?
Thanks, Tien

Generally..... when I run into the retard on the gauge it's because I left a handle open or hooked them up backwards (yes, it happens to everyone) When that happens... it's just a friendly reminder that I'm a "retard" and hooked it up wrong.
Of course, the more "technical" term, means the gauge is over it's rated pressure area, and has "retarded" the gauge to prevent damage (aka, no needle spinning like crazy lol).

or the compressor is not running!
Those are 134a gauges used primarily for "short bus" charging.:D

It is for when you are charging a unit up with refrigerant and if you get too much in it and peg the gauge it will tell you that you are a retard and should let some out.

It means Your Nitrogen regulator is set to high and your hoses are going to pop.

Retard is a built in feature that makes your low side gauge able to show more precise measurements at lower pressures, yet not peg and bend itself out of shape at higher pressures. Go above a certain pressure and the gage just tells you it's higher than 150 or whatever and can't tell you the real reading.
I thought my gages were telling me I'm a retard. Didn't know how my gages knew that, but turns out it was just coincidence.
