Looking for a 2 stage 2 ton package unit.

1. Is there such thing as a 2 ton 2 stage package unit AC/heat pump?

2. Is there such thing as a 1.5 ton package unit?

We are in Tucson, Arizona we have decided to install package units on the roof of an apartment building. The smallest package unit that we can find is 2 tons. The living space is 450 sqft one bedroom apartment. Temperatures reach 115 degree in the summer.

International Comfort Products produces these units. They come in the pax or phx series and are R410a. The brands available by ICP:Tempstar, Heil, Comfortmaker, Keeprite, ArcoAire, and Kenmore(from Sears).

We had origionally desided to use a Rheem product but it seems that they do not make a 2 stage unit.

We are planning to buy 100 of these units for an apartment building. Can anyone recommend a medium quality medium price 2 stage roof top package unit comparable to Rheem?

Unfortunately looking at such as sophisticated product with limited competition, you won't be getting a down & dirty price. These are high end and will be salty!

Everyone has their own opinion on quality. If Rheem made a similar unit, it would have similar components like the 2 stage scroll, GE ECM motor, etc. So I guess the answer would be, either of these would be comparable to a Rheem if it were made.

If you are in an area where you get hail, I'd steer your towards the Carrier due to the cabinet protecting the coil. Otherwise, it's likely a tossup.
