All because they found out a professional such as yourself shot yourself with a nailgun, every DIY in the country now wants to be like you;
Nailgun injuries soar among weekend warriors Fri Apr 13, 9:27 AM ET
WASHINGTON (Reuters) - Take a nation of do-it-yourselfers, add a ready supply of cheap nailguns and what do you get? About 37,000 nailgun injuries a year, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
Since 1991, nailgun injuries have risen about 200 percent, the CDC said in its weekly report on death and disease.
"This increase likely corresponds to an increase in availability during the 1990s of inexpensive pneumatic nail guns and air compressors (to power the nail guns) in home hardware stores; however, no sales data are available for confirmation," the CDC reported.
But when the CDC looked at who was getting injured, it became clear that the number of work-related nailgun injuries had stayed stable since 1998. It was consumer-related injuries that had soared.
"During the 5-year period 2001-2005, an average of approximately 37,000 patients with injuries related to nail-gun use were treated annually in emergency departments, with 40 percent of injuries occurring among consumers," the report read.
Emergency departments treated three times as many consumers with nail-gun injuries in 2005 as they did in 1991, the report noted.
The CDC said more needs to be done to make consumers aware of the dangers.

I shot myself in the hand once with one of my trim nail guns.... I was not trying to emulate jmac or anything. The nail hit a hard knot in the wood, and bent 180º back out of the wood and into my palm. (which was holding up the peice of trim I was installing)
Hurt like hell for a few days, but it was no real big deal. Now if it was my framing nailer, I would probably have had to go to the doctor...
I could imagine a handy homeowner screaming like a stuck pig, and calling the paramedics...:0

I just wish it was as a *STUD* and not a "nailer" :o :o :o :o
The worst part of the whole affair was having to call the framer over to use his hammer to get the nail out of my hand. The good news was it happen in February ( as you may remember) and my fingers were frozen, so it didn't hurt "real bad" till my finger started to warm up:mad: :o :o :o

I was trying to scab 2 -2bys together. I got one nail in then I grabbed the wood to straighten it a bit before the second nail. I pulled the trigger. The second nail hit the first nail and bent at a 90 deg. angle. Right into my finger. Wow, I couldn't imagine how far it would have went if it wasn't soften by going thru the 2 x 4 first. This was one of those learning lessons.
I didn't tell you guys at the time because you would have made fun of me and I'm senitive.:)

Last summer I shot a ring shank nail right in my finger, my partner almost lost his lunch when I asked him to pull the nail out. So I had to go out to my truck and get some pliers and pull that nail out(that's what the Doc would've done). I washed it out with some water and put a band-aid on it and went back to work. But man did it swell up and throb like crazy that night.

mine happened in February, I went outside and stuck my finger ( middle finger of my left hand :D ) in a snow bank. then I emptied (drank) my coffee and filled the cup with snow and stuck my finger in it.
Virtually no selling at all.
Now I don't know what you guys did, but the next day my wife insisted I go to our doctor, who promtly sent me to a plastic surgeon. Which, at first annoyed the hell out of me.
But it turns out, a plastic surgeons office is full of babes :D :D :D all the nurses are BABES :D ;) although I have to admit, the nurses are babes, they were pretty much brain dead to:( I had to explain what happened 3 times
Then the nurses wanted to send me to Physical Therapy  :( fortunately the Doctor spoke up and said "do you see what the guy does for a living, I think the finger will get plenty of exercise"

Two things, the last one first, How did the doctor know you pick your nose?
And firstly...the nurses ask multible times to make sure of what you are saying, this is done purposely...I know I have been married to one for almost 30 years...:( :D

'cause he's genius :D :D :D
And firstly...the nurses ask multible times to make sure of what you are saying, this is done purposely...I know I have been married to one for almost 30 years...:( :D .
I should expound on this part, I shortened it up in the other post to save space and writing time:
First the blond nurse came in the room and asked what happened, I told her and she left the room.
10 minutes later the brunette with the hooters showed up and ask me what happened, I told her the same thing I told the blond. She left the room
10 minutes later another blond with the nice legs and tush showed up and asked what happened, I told her to go ask the other two nurses. She looked annoyed and left the room
Then all three came back in with the doctor (surgeon) and I said to the doc "your not going to do anything are you"
The doc said "how'd you know that"
I said "the nail went through the middle of the bone and it's probably a hairline fracture, nothing to do but wrap it up to keep it from bending"
Doc said "hell, you don't need me" >smiling< this is when the blond with the nice tush said I should go to Physical therapy.
The doc then said "do you see what he does for a living"
I said (while standing up and pointing to the nurses) "i better get out of here before I have to start exercising my right hand"
the doc started laughing, I was smiling and one of the blonds said "but didn't you hurt your left hand?"
Me and the doc were now laughing our ass's off and the Brunette was rolling her eyes back into her head
I said (while still laughing) "nothing personal Doc, but I hope to never see ya again"
he pats me on the back and said "nope, I understand, thats the best laugh I had in 2 days, Take care"

jmac00: Years ago I stuck my hand in a condenser while the fan was running (do not try this at home, I am a professional) and it seems that the fan is unforgiving of bonehead mistakes. Well off I go to the hospital and the doctor sews my hand up very nice. About three months later, my father runs a skill saw across his hand and off to the doctor he goes. Well the first thing the doctor asked him was...Do you have a son just as stupid as you... :D My dad says without missing a beat, oh you know my son. That was funny, later my dad asked the doctor if he would be able to play the piano after his hand healed...the doctor said oh yes...my dad said that's funny I could not before I hurt my hand...the doctor said I can't believe you got me that's a good one...:D

My framing nailer is supposed to be a single-action, but damned if it didn't have a lovely time throwing a second nail out on occasion while I was patching the roof the other day...
Managed to bend a few nails in the safety nose a few times, but I have been pretty lucky otherwise. *knocks on wood*

If I carried one of those in the truck, it would probably get more use fixing the steering (and headlights and grills and windshields) on a few stray wobbly cars I see on the road:p :D . Stupid cars... Don't they know their drivers have other things to do besides pay attention to their needs?
I'm useful like that.

I've never shot myself, only the boss. I was stepping up a valley nailing down the metal flashing when he decided to stick his foot under my nailgun to press the flashing down more. After a few cuss words, he admitted it was his fault. Unheard of. no doctor either....:o
