Checked machine today. Had ice forming on bottom evap only
Psi switch was making timer to quickly and sending unit into harvest. I threw on my low side gauge and it was about 30 at beginning of freeze. So machine is running on the timer only.
After further inspection I noticed the back side of the evaporator was Iced up too. I shut the machine down until tommorrow after I try to unstick that headmaster on the coldzone rack. I did not want to draw any conclusions until ice melts on the back side. Any clues?
Thanks

Check your charge in the system, but leak check the schraders before you do. Temp the completion timer for above 8 minutes, pull the plug on the H20 pump and scope the feed over the evap with 2 K-12 probes for a T.D. of 6 or less * for a TXV problem.

Haven't worked on one of these in years but sounds to me like the incoming water isn't shutting off. That constant influx of "warm" water will cause the evap not to freeze until the water has been chilled by the top portion and it will form ice only at the bottom.

Check the TXV also. They seem to have around 1/3 the life of the old valves.

Mojo, the head water regulating valve was shutting off completly during Harvest so I beleive it is not broken ..But it seemed like it was using way to much water. And the water coming out of the drain was not very warm. May need an adjustment after I verify charge is correct in system. The back side of the evap being frozen is what got me thinking. How does it happen?
This machine has 2 evaps. If one is starving would it cause the other to overfeed? And with 2 evaps and only 1 low side gauge port. Which low side refer saturation temp am I actually reading. The Lowest or the Highest of the 2. Also how often does water cooled condensors get leaks in them. I would hate to pull a vac on this system and suck in water and not have it work ever again. Or is it a tube in tube. Where water is in it's own pipe and refrigerant in it's other.
Thanks

Hey guys,
Update on this system. Went back next day. Dumped 12 OZ. of charge into it and it started dumping ice. preformed leak check with my old leak detector that does not work with 404a and 410. no leak found. Told boss I need a new leak detector. Boss agreed and bought me a new one. "Infinicon tec-mate".
2 days later customer calls machine making half plates of ice again. Break out my new leak detector and in less than 30 seconds I find leak on rotted liquid line dryer. Yes, my new leak detector kicks A$$. And it's the cheap $147 double D battery one. :D
