Picked Up New Account. Building Has 2 200 Ton Turbo Ice Machine Chillers . Previous Hvac Company Started Losing Compressors After Low Run Hours [ Few Months ]. Each Unit Uses 1 120 Ton 12 Cly Royce Compressor And 1 80 Ton Royce. We Replaced 1 Units Compressors W/ New Ones. Started Machine And Found 0 Deg Super Heat. Out Of 6 Txv's One Was Bad But Still Get Liquid In The Bottom Of Ice Plate We Think Through A Check Valve That Is For Defrost Mode . Does Anyone Have Any Knowledge Of These Beasts.

Just treat it like an oversized ice machine with the same operating traits as a chiller. By that I mean... the expansion valves need to be set one at a time after verifying that each check valve is not bleeding thru. The check valves seem to fail on a yearly basis. Sometimes just a rebuild kit will take care of the problem...other times the body of the valve will need to be changed to repair the seat. From a chiller stand point... verify you have the proper water flow across the plates to boil off the liquid refrigerant...check the % of glycol if you are using it to freeze balls or slabs in the tank. Too much will create temperature exchange problems... verify loading and unloading points of the compressors... Turbo normally provides an excellent manual...and they also have classes that focus on the set-up of their machines. As they get a little older, pay special attention to cleaning the oil strainers on the return lines from the oil separators, especially since the compressors have failed.
Hope this might point you in the right direction..
A good infrared temperature gun and a log sheet really help on these to catch problems as they develope.
