Got an old salad cooler case (food storage pans on top) that I need to install a condensor and evap. It measures 2x2x4. We do not have the original condensor or evap to check model numbers and compare BTU ratings. I am thinking a 1600 btu evap, with a quarter H.P. r-22 condensor and a 1/8 through a 1/3 ton txv(EBFV-AAA-C)
We already have the expansion valve and condensor. Just need to pick up a evap and the largest that will fit in this case is a 1600 BTU heatcraft.
What do you guys think.
Thanks

Call heatcraft/larkin and tell them what you have. they will put you right on what you need.

Is it even worth repairing? An old cooler that needs a condenser (condensing unit?) and evap?

Aside from all this not being worth it, I'd stay away from doing it because it likely won't be able to meet the new FDA Food Code standards for maintaining the top pans as well as the cabinet at 41ºF or below.
I have had some food inspectors say they will stop allowing the older designs to pass in the near future so I've been advising my customers not to spend a lot of money on these older prep tables.

If the box is only 2'x2'x4' high use a 850-1200 Btu coil the 1600 is too big. That 1/4 Hp will short cycle its guts out.

Salad coolers usually have dressings and such in em too.
Get the coated coil.

Thanks for the replies. Cooler is a built-in. And I guess not to bad of shape. Maybe needs some more cleaning which I did some of that myself while I was prepping the electric. A waitress came up to me and said. "thats the cleanest I ever seen this thing" I replied. Yes, It's kind of sad when the A/C guy has to do the cleaning" :D
Our supply house guy told us we would have to use a 2600 btu coil on our 1/4 hp condensor. Is he correct. I am thinking 2600 btu coil is too big for a 1/4 HP condensor.

The Boss said he measured the case. If it matters it's actually 4X2x2 high. I wondering if he actually took the top pans out before he even measured it. I am gonna go back to the job this morning and double check the sizing on this case. And I am really interested in learning how to match the number of btu of a evap to the correct size condensor.
Thanks
