For what its worth, here is the cover letter that I will be sending out. Opinions and comments are welcome.

Paul xxxxxxx

### xxxxxx Street, xxxxx, FL ##### · (###) ###-#### __________________________________________________ ______________________

I have chosen to pursue a career in the Air Conditioning field because I feel that it fits in well with my past education and work experiences. My goal is to become a Service Technician, but I welcome any opportunity within the company in which I can prove my abilities through hard work and determination to be a valued employee.

My educational background includes a strong emphasis in electronics which I have successfully applied to my past employment. For nine years I was employed with the same company as a Service Technician working on Semiconductor Equipment. My duties included maintaining, troubleshooting, and repairing both mechanical and electrical problems. I have enclosed my resume which provides more details on my qualifications.

In preparation, I have completed a program in Air Conditioning/Refrigeration and have obtained my EPA Section 608 Universal Certification. I am currently waiting on a testing date for my R-410A Safety Certification, and also continuing to study for my NATE Certification.

Again, I believe much of my experience is transferable to the Air Conditioning field and that I have the required motivation and work ethic necessary to become an important asset to xxxxxxx. If you are looking for a hard worker with a willingness to learn, a great driving history, no criminal record, and drug free; I would welcome a personal interview to better answer any questions regarding my qualifications. You can contact me at (###) ###-####. Thank you for your time and consideration. I look forward to hearing from you.

Sincerely,

Paul xxxxxxx

There are two simple rules which should apply in almost all circumstances:

Never send an application without a covering letter;
Never send the same letter twice.

A well-written covering letter can add tremendous value to your resume. Get it wrong and it can be the difference between being shortlisted or not.

What you say in your covering letter and how you say it shows an employer how good your communication skills are, a skill required in many positions.

Your letter should be easy to read and understant, be brief and to the point-no longer than one page.

In your opening sentence clearly state what position you are applying for. In your next paragraph summarise the skill and attributes you possess which are relevant for the position applied for, be clear and specific but concise. This should not be more tha 4 or 5 sentences.

Finish your covering letter with a positive reference to a future interview, such as " I look forward to discussing my application with you in person"

It is very important you use positive language throughout your letter, communicating confidence, optimism and eagerness--these are attributes an employer is looking for in an employee.

I hope this help a little!

compliment the company somehow. big company, great reputation, small company heard good things about you. Research them on the internet and at supply houses.

First sentence is adequate, but kinda klunky. Does anybody care how you "feel" ?

I like it.

Cover letter = advertisement to spark enough interest to view resume and it hit that goal IMHO, I would review your resume after that.

The only thing I would change, dump the buzz words, the 90's are over. leaner and meaner is all that still applies, fewer words is better but overall it still gets a pass from me.
