I need to power some 24VDC relays and would like some kind of AC/DC power rectifier rather than just sticking in a Radio Shack semi. Maybe something with filtering? Any suggestions?

How about a Trane UPCM DC power supply?

just sticking a bridge rectifier onto a 24 volt transformer will give you close to 40 volts of dc...think its ac voltage X 1.414....or something..... fiqure 28 volts times 1.4....

what you want is a regulated dc power supply which is simple to build..... need a bridge rectifier, smoothing capacitor,.....24 volt voltage regulator....a resistor...

24 volts is a common regulator offering too... 5,9,12,15,24...positive and negative...and there are adjustable regulators too.

Google.... " dc power supply schematic" or "dc power supply circuit" there are plenty of simple yet effective circuits out there.....

We have some 1.5 volt power supplies from kele laying around the shop... I could build just as nice....nicer really...a unit for about a dollar..well two dollars........ Id hate to see what kele charged us for them....

price goes up with current.... 1.5 amp volt regulators go for 50 cents...5 amp go for about 3-5 dollars.... higher current also requires higher UF smoothing caps... I think its about 2500 UF an amp.... use a capacitor rated for 2X the ac voltage feeding the rectifier....

anyhow there are explicit instructions for building these on the net.....

mouser.com...... allied electronics......jameco......digi key........ electronics
express.........newark.com are all decent suppliers........

oh yes... my babbling got in the way of suggesting that you just buy a 24 vdc power supply......plenty of sources for them too.....

Thanks Crab that's just what I wanted. I didn't want a full power supply just rectifier.
