I have a reach in that was previously converted to 409a from r-12 before I got to it. It has a cap tube met. device and my suction runs around 5 psi with a 175 head. Subcool is about 10 but superheat is like 30 - 45 and it is having trouble getting to temp. Any suggestions?

I don't think your problem is the 409, we use it all the time with excellent results. Kinda sounding like a clogged cap tube, or wrong cap tube.
change cap tube, clean condenser i mean really clean it,you will be fine.

Your capped tube is clogged or filter drier is. The condensor was probably extremely dirty at one time and boiled the oil losing its lubricating ability and stopped up cap tube. You can try back blowing the cap from the evap. end to see if you can blow clear but you will most likely have to replace cap tube
