Anybody got a junker for sale or trade?

I do resi. service but everbody wants me to do ref.
I learned some stuff in school but it has been a while and I honestly didnt pay to much attention when I was there.
So I am going to practice on what ever I can get.
I dont have a big budget this is coming out of my pocket so take it easy on me and I do plan on making ice this summer so it has to have some life left or at least potential.

Thanks for helping the up and coming

How much are you looking to spend? Have some (sorry no clunkers) around $1000.

Fly to NY and you can play on 4 different units I have all you want.

Or

Go to the various web sites Manitowoc, Hoshizaki, Scotsman and read up on the manuals. Hands on is great but you really need the basics.

Thats a little more then what I was looking for:(
I was thinking of $300.00- $500.00 for a worthy heap, remember I still have to pay shipping or go pick it up.

I dont know if thats possible like I said I am just figuring this stuff out.

If you were to recomend a good starter unit (something that has the most common features) What would it be?

Go to your local dump and see what they have. 2 years ago I picked up a 600# mani. All it needed was a float valve. Don’t forget you’ll nee a bin with it.

Now you sound like one of the home owners in residential. :D

The only thing I would recommend is to smell the refrigerant to see if it’s burned. Beyond that you get what you pay for.

I put a call in to the local junk yard I figure the guy working the yard should know whats up.
he is going to call me back after he checks the yard over to see if there is anything worth while
I will keep you posted

I also found a few on craigslist
http://columbus.craigslist.org/for/289614714.html
and

Forget the DC-33. I think it produces 30#’s a day and it’s not built to service. The only thing you’ll learn from it is to stay away from ice makers.

The flaker is interesting but there a different ball game.

Keep looking.

The only thing more unreliable than a new ice machine.....is a used ice machine.

Tell me what size you want, and I'll get you one. I think you owe you anyways.

I junk about 75 machines a year. Most of them can be fixed easily. However the majority are typically bad evaps (Mani's, Cornholeius, Ice-o-Crapics)

What size you want.

I got a little QM30 or 45 that has a rust hole in the compressor. You could braze it up, charge, and start making ice. It's just a little guy though.

If your looking for more of a residential, I just today took out a Scotsman dc something or other. Apparently it was not making good ice, and I think the float valve is missing.

Let me know.

Pay if forward.

I just remembered I got a Corneluis 330 air on a small bin. Can't remember whats wrong with it. Oh ya, now I remember, It's a Cornelius. :)

Scotsman 1000lb. remote 3 phase. No remote. Just been acting up, so it was replaced with a Mani remote.

(I actually liked (like cornelius), a fun little machine to work on. Just seemed I was always screwing around with those sensors all the time)

Let me know.

I was going to tear out the controller and probably the water pump but don't need to (just for an emergency spare) And the rest was going to scrap. So you tell me.

Now here's the disclaimer: I do not know much about this machine. I think it's like 12 years old, and the customer was tired of paying for service calls. He called me for an ice machine situation solution. I recommended to either let me look at his machine to see what the problem was, or buy a new Manitowoc.

He walked back to his office and came back with 2 grand cash (as a deposit) and said "How soon can you get a new one installed" :)

It has also been sitting outside in the cold for the last couple of weeks. Everything was drained, but you know what I am saying.

R-22 unit.

I'll try to get some pictures tomorrow for ya and then you can make me an offer.

Sorry, I did not take any pics yet. I will try tomorrow.

Are you looking for a working machine? or something that you can "play" around with?

I know the compressor worked, and I think the evap was in good shape. Just can't remember why I ripped it out.

I'll try to plug her in tomorrow and see what she does. If it does start making ice, can I "bug" it for you? :D

Bug away:D
The whole Idea here is to get the hands on so I dont look as dumb in front of a customer.
I would prefer a working machine so I can see what it is supposed to do before I take it apart and break it

Of course playing around is fun too:D

It's $2000.00 for a working machine
Real cheap if I can break it first. :D

I'll let ya know.

I also have an old kold draft that I ripped out about a week ago.
If you really, really, really, really want to learn about ice machines, this one would keep you busy for a while :D

Not for ice makers.

Manitowoc, Hoshizaki, Scotsman, Ice-o-Matic, Kold-Draft, Cornelius, Follet, Crystal tips, etc.
