I was told today that you cant change out a potential relay with a solid stay relay but Ive done it several times with out problems. Can someone explain this to me?

it is not that you can't change them with solid state, but compressor manufacturers always want you to use the same starting components that they sell you the compressor with. copeland will not honor a warranty for a compressor that does not have copeland specified starting components, i'm sure the same could be said for tecumseh, bristol, and all other compressor manufacturers. when you use a solid state relay, you do not have the exact pick up and drop out volts you have with a potential relay. get yourself a copy of the copeland electric handbook. it will give you numbers on all components for copeland compressors. it is a great resource with much valuable information
