Questions for the Pros. My HVAC contractor gave me an estimate for a new system. 1 in the basement for the first floor and 1 in the attic for the 2nd floor. After the addition it will be approximately 5,000 sq ft. Here is the equipment list,

RGFD07 70,000 BTU Mod 90+
RGFD06 60,000 BTU Mod 90+
B71A36 Cooling Coil
B10A36 Cooling Coil
RAPC030 2 1/2 ton, 15 seer AC
RAPC036 3 ton, 15 seer AC
Honeywell F200 5" media filters
Focus Pro6000 Thermostats w/mod. capabilities
SH90 Skuttle humidifier
Outdoor Snesors

Questions: 1. Is the 60,000 btu a horizontal unit?
2. Do the cooling coils & AC units match the furnaces?
3. If it were your house would you change or upgrade anything?

Thanks for your assistance as I have no idea what I'm looking at here.

RGFD is upflow

Not sure whose coils they are, they are NOT Rheem

Focus Pro is NOT the proper stat, only the Rheem matching touch screen stat should be used with the Mod if you want it to modulate

Get the matching Rheem coils, proper thermostats. If it gets below freezing in your area, don't put a 90 in an unconditioned space. Be sure a room is built around it and the drains go somewhere where they won't freeze. Not sure about Skuttle hums. Parts & pads more available for Aprilaire, General & Honeywell.

Otherwise, should be good equipment. Scares me that a contractor would propose the Mods and a cheap non matching stat.

Thanks for the quick reply. Would you happen to know the matching Rheem part numbers for the coils and stats? Maybe he recommended the other parts to bring the price down, but I want it done right since I'm starting from scratch, including the ductwork as I am gutting the house.

On the 2.5 ton system, RCFA-HM3617 will get 14.50 SEER

On the 3 ton system, there is only 1 match with the 75,000 BTU furnace and it isn't high SEER. If you put a 90,000 furnace and RCFA-HM4821 coil with the 3 ton, you'd get 15.00 SEER.

The blower on the furnace is a part of the SEER rating when you get higher up. I'm guessing the little motor on the 75K running flat out won't do it with the restrictive RCFA coil. That's why the rating requires the 09 with the big blower running on a low speed.

The Mod stat is RHC-TST401MDMS
