so i'm trying to pack my questions into one post so i don't bug you guys too much.

1. with a high eff 90% furnace, does the supply vent HAVE to come from the outside? mine just has a vent hole on the opposite side of the exhaust vent where i assume air comes in. furnace is a goodman gch90703bx

2. the exhaust vent that goes though the roof (pvc pipe) i don't know if there is a wire screen in it but is there a cap or something i can put on it to help keep critters out of it? i have A LOT of chipmunks and the like in my area.

sorry about all my posts lately i just want to make sure my setup is done right

thanks

some brands only need the exhaust vented to the outside and the intake can be pulled from the inside
what is the brand and model number

no you can not put a screen or cap on the exhaust pipe going through the roof. This is how the fumes from the furnace are discharged

call and have the system looked over by a pro and this way all your concerns can be put to rest once and for all

you need to have any unit serviced once a year anyway so you can solve all at the same time

good luck with your new house

i assure you that i am not installing the furance myself..it was in my house when i purchased the home last year...
As i said before I am horrible BUILDING anything besides computers..

I'd love to take a picture of the unit already installed and working..and post it...or even my computer A+ cerfticate to show i am a computer geek.

I really don't even know how to measure correctly using a tape measure...i never learned that...

thanks for answering me tinknocker...
there is no type of cap or anything that will help keep those critters out?

If critters get in there, they will be moving out as soon as that furnace kicks on! They dont like CO gas. No you cant cap it or screen it you will cause a blockage when condensation freezes on the screen.

thanks for your answer about the vent...makes me feel better knowing that.

Any thoughts regarding the supply intake. Should it come from the roof as well, or is it ok just intaking from the utility room?
