that would depend on who is doing it.

for me it would be looking at it and saying "i don't work on them":D

some other guys would probably do more.

really need to call around to service companies in your area and see what their service includes.

Usually when boilers and furnaces are serviced they should have the nozzle, strainer, and filters replaced. Then drop the stack and brush or wash it out..then check the chimney to make sure its clear. Next run a saw and a brush threw the boiler sections or brush out a warm a furnace. Vac out any debris. After run a eff test, and a smoke test to make sure its running correctly. There is alot in a tune up. Usually on average it should take at least 1 to 1 1/2 hr. During or after the tune up they should visually look at the rest of the boiler for leaks or any updates/repairs needed...(example if the oil line is old and goes under the floor). Thats all about I can tell you for now. Hopefully that helps.:)

Burnerman lists a good service the only thing I would add to his list is I always replace the electrodes cheap insurance and test the high/lo limits and the primary control for proper function, There are guys who do a nice thorough job and have happy customers and then there are the other guys that do a hit and run cleaning and roll the dice on callbacks. Pulling the stack and checking the chimney is manditory, I wish I had my camera when I cleaned one a few years ago, I filled a five gallon bucket with large pieces of flue tile that collected in the flue right by the connection, I left her the bucket to show the chimney guy who she called while I was there, I'm glad I looked the last guy sure didn't :D

I don't agree with changing the electrodes everyyear. I have some oil burners out there with the original electrodes 5,10,15,20 years old. Maybe they don't run as much here as they do where ever you are. JMO

I only replace when they get the spider web thing or the tips are round.

This is probably a good discussion for homeowners to read but have you applied for profesional membership? You are missing alot of great business and technical help. And other super secret stuff :D

Those are all good things to do except relaceing the electrodes, (clean them and check the gap and spacing), But you left out cleaning the cad cell, air tube and flame retension ring. Cleaning up the transformer contacts and checking the F/O pressure can also pay off.
