Hello,

Just making sure that I shouldn't question this combo for any reason.......

The contractor is matching up the following.....

G61MPV-36B-071 (or 070, my choice)
XC21-024-230 2 ton A/C
C33-31A-2 2.5 ton indoor coil
PCO-20C PureAir
Harmony III - 4 Zones

This combo achieves a 14.4 EER and 19.8 SEER ratings acc......which is better then if it's "matched" with a 2 ton c33-25 indoor coil (14.3 EER and 19.65 SEER)

However, if this is matched with a 3 ton indoor coil, it achieves a 14.5 EER and 20 SEER ratings (c33-38)! It would be nice to say I'm actually achieving 20 SEER.

What are the advantages/disadvantages of going with larger or smaller ton cooling capacity coils indoor compared to the rating of the AC?

If you were me, would you request the 3 ton coil?

Thanks,

Jason

biggest thing i see is you are matchind an "A" coil to a "B" furnace.

letter tels you the width of units, transition would be needed.

match it to a cx34-31B you will get 20 seer, 14.7eer and cabinets will match.

I thinking he probably just mis-spoke on the A. I'll confirm that though...thanks for bringing that up. But for now, assume he just misspoke on the phone.

He gave me ARI # 1047055...which doesn't specify width...but confirms he is talking about a c33-31.

According to the ARI website, the ratings are the same for the CX34 and the C33 coils, with the 14.5/20 combo being the highest. The CX34-31 gave the 14.4/19.8 rating as the c33-31. Am I missed something...I can't get the 14.7 EER rating on the ARI website.

Is there a reason to argue for the CX34 over the C33?

Is there any reason not to go up to the 3 ton coil to get the little better rating?

i screwed up, the 14.7 eer is with the g60mpv furnace.

best with g61mpv is 14.5 eer, 20 seer with cx34-38 coil

for the little bit of efficiency of the larger coil you would lose some of the dehumidifying advantage of the smaller coil.

as close as the numbers are the difference between them would probably never be noticed.

cx34 coil has txv mounted inside cabinet, c33 coil it mounts outside. inside the cabinet makes a neater install
